I. Overview
Jungle Style uses a point system for loot distribution. Members earn points for attending raids that can be used to bid on items that drop. Please read the other policy sections for a description of the system.

Why a point system?

Rolling is essentially blind to effort and contribution. Since we promote a guild-first approach to raiding, we feel that a loot system benefitting the guild as a whole is more appropriate. Loot systems are designed to smooth out unequal distribution that can occur as a result of rolling.
We chose a point system because there are really only two basic loot systems available - a point sytem (commonly known as DKP) and a round robin (e.g. SuicideKings). Some of us used SK in the past and felt that the implementation no longer applies to BC endgame, so we tried to construct a point system that mirrors the spirit of Jungle Style.
Really though. Isn't this DKP?

Basically. DKP has become the household name for any point-based loot distribution system. Sort of like 'Kleenex' is for tissues.
How does this help the guild?

Think of any loot system as roll insurance. It helps keep the people with poor rolling luck from become demoralized, and it more accurately reflects and rewards participation in the guild. Since the purpose it to distribute items (used to help the guild in its activities) based more on participation (i.e. people who are around to frequently help will likely earn more tools with which to help) than luck, a loot system attempts to maximize the guild utility of drops.
The traditional arguments against point systems revolve around barriers to entry for new guild members. Since by its nature, JS attempts to recruit members with similar play habits (online for most/all raids), the kind of point gap between senior raiders and new recruits that is used as a counterexample should be largely inapplicable.
Loot is not a goal, but Blizzard has ensured that it is a measure of guild progress. JS exists to move forward and see new things. To do this, we have to kill new trash and bosses. This requires gear and practice. Practice is a personal thing, and we already assume each member is doing their best to perform as well as possible. Gear is both an enabler and a physical measure of personal achievement - and the guild can help to even out the distribution to recognize that we respect the time and dedication that all of our members put into the guild.
II. Earning Points
Points will be given for each 30 minutes spent in a raid.
Players earn according to the following tiers:
At the first tier, a raider will earn 25 points per 30 min they are in a raid.
Once a raider accumulates 1000 points the earning rate will go to 15 points per 30 min.
Once a raider accumulates 2500 points, the earning rate will go to 5 points per 30 min.
At each earning tier, the rate at which points are earned is reduced to combat point inflation.

Alts and points

Alts earn points independently from mains. Once per 6 months, if an alt is swapped as a player's new main, the points from those 2 characters can be rolled together and given to the main character. All alts must be created and tied to your event site account before the raid starts. Any alt present on a point-earning run that does not have a corresponding character created under your user account will simply not earn points.
III. Bidding
Each item will be offered with a minimum bid, and raid members who can utilize the item will be allowed to submit bids to the loot master for 30 seconds. Bidders will need to qualify their bids with a type: main, offspec, lastchance followed by the amount of points they want to bid. If no bids are received the item will be sharded and sent to the guild vault.
For example, a player bidding main spec on an item:
/bid main 245
A player bidding off spec on an item:
/bid offspec 124
The loot master uses a custom mod for JS Loot and automated responses will be posted in /raid, /raidwarning, and /whisper.

Winning a bid (paying points)
(click to show)
When bids are received, the player with the highest bid will win the item. If that player is the only bidder, they will be charged the minimum cost regardless of what they actually bid. If there are multiple bidders, the winner will be charged 1 point more than the second highest bid. This protects players from losing an unnecessarily high number of points if they overbid on an item. In the case of duplicate items from a boss, the top two bids will adjusted similarly so that only one bidding session is necessary for both of the duplicate items.
If there is a tie for the highest bid, the player with the highest total number of points will win the item. That player will be charged their bid plus 1 so that their effective bid is higher than the other player(s) that bid the same. This holds true even if it reduces the winning player's total below 0. If the players who are tied for the highest bid are also tied in their total number of points, then a random roll will occur to determine the winner. That player will then be charged their bid plus 1.
Item value calculations
(click to show)
Minimum item point values are calculated based on item level. This ensures that all tier sets will cost the same number of points regardless of class and that items of equal level (i.e. items that drop from bosses of similar difficulty) will also have the same base bidding cost. See
Appendix A: Item Value Formula for specific details.
Bidding without enough points
(click to show)
Bids cannot be below the minimum price and cannot exceed the player's total points with one exception: a player who does not have enough points to meet the minimum bid may win an item if and only if they are the sole bidder. In this case, they will be charged the minimum bid. This can occur even if the player already has a negative point total.
There are going to be BoE epics that drop in the dungeons. While in raid, BoE Epics will be bid on as normal. If no one bids on them they will be placed in the Guild Vault where the price will be 2x the raid minimum bid. Once it is in the vault, it is first come first serve.
